Could stress be the cause of acne breakouts? Researchers have always thought that stress and acne went together, but after a 2005 Stanford University Study, those suspicions are now confirmed. Stress can be added to the list of potential acne sources, and if you seem to breakout when life is causing you these hardships and when things are going wrong or during other stressful situations, stress could very well be the culprit of your condition.
Stress Working Overtime
When you are stressed, adrenal glands start working overtime, causing a flood of cortisol hormones to be released into the bloodstream. As a result the sweat glands in your face begin to produce more oil, and with those extra amounts of oil, bacteria becomes trapped inside. This causes pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, papules, cysts and other acne blemishes to form on the skin.
Although stress is a part of our everyone’s life, it does not have to be a cause of acne breakouts. There are many different things that can be done to eliminate stress and help your acne at the same time. This starts with a well-balanced diet free of acne-causing foods and one that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and Omega-3 Fatty Acids. There are many excellent food choices that can be included in your diet without worry of increasing the acne blemishes that you have. Water is also important to include in your diet, and drinking the recommended 8 glasses per day is essential for healthy, acne-free skin. Whatever causes you acne, you can rely on exposed acne products to get rid of acne.
Dealing With Stress
It is important that you find ways to deal with the causes of stress in your life. Whether it is the stress of an upcoming exam at school or stress over paying your bills, find something that relaxes your mind and helps you think clearly and positively. Yoga and Pilates are great ways to reduce the amount of stress levels in your life, just as meditation and socializing can help reduce the condition.
Ensure that you get the recommended amount of sleep every day as well. A tired body can cause an increased in stress levels which can send acne breakouts into overdrive. It is recommended that 8 to 9 hours of sleep be gained each and every night. If you want to benefit even further, be sure that you are exercising every day as well.
Finally, ensure that you are keeping your face clean. Two cleansings per day, one time in the morning and another at night, as well as moisturizing and exfoliating can provide you with a reduced number of acne breakouts.
Stress may be a contributing factor of acne, but it does not have to cause you to breakout. Use the above tips and you will find amazing relief from both acne and stress.
